Sternwheeler Aksala, c1936.
A close view of the bow of the sternwheeler “Aksala” with a supply barge tied to its bow and flying the “Royal Mail’ and B.Y.N.Co.” (British Yukon Navigation Company) flags in the Yukon River. The Aksala was originally named the Alaska, built by the American Yukon Navigation Company in Whitehorse in 1913. It was transferred to Canadian register and renamed the Aksala and operated for the B.Y.N.Co. until 1952. It now sits at mile 913 on the Alaska Highway. It was once a dining lounge.
