Hydraulic Mine Operation, Lovett Gulch, c1920.
Black and white view of a hydraulic mining operation. The jet from a monitor is clearly visible.
Caption: (4) Close up of hydraulic nozzle operating at Lovett Gulch. The gravel here was 60 to 75 feet deep. The water was delivered through an 8″ nozzle at up to 150 lbs pressure. At the lower right is a “cut” through which gravel was washed into valley below. Gold accumulated in crevises in the bottom of the cut and in “sluice” boxes near the discharge end of the cut.
