Dawson City, c1918.
Panorama of the south end of Dawson City, the Klondike River and Klondike City or Lousetown as it was known. 1997.213.4, .5, .6 were three separate photographs that when joined together form a panorama.
Caption: On the right side of the picture (3), the Klondike River enters the Yukon, at the south end of town. The symmetrical gray masses in the Klondike stream bed are ‘tailings’ left by gold dredges. The flat low area to lower right in this picture, at the juncture of the two rivers is Klondike City, also known as ‘Lousetown’, the red light district in the earlier days. The famous Bonanza Creek enters the Klondike from the right, about three miles upstream from the mouth of the Klondike, coming out of the valley behind the ridge of dark hills.
